WHAT YOU SEE AND HEAR

The Bergen fjord day that answers only to you

  • The road out of Bergen toward Dale/Voss country.
  • Mountain road scenery and waterfall stops.
  • Masfjorden ferry crossing.
  • Skjerjehamn on the coast.
  • Express-ferry return through Alverstraumen toward Bergen.

This is a full fjord day without rail reservations or a fixed sightseeing-cruise departure. Local ferry times shape the route, while the stops remain flexible.

The route climbs from Bergen into the mountains toward Dale and Voss country, up a serpentine to a lookout about 700 metres above sea level, past waterfalls stacked one over another — close enough, at one stop, to touch the water coming down.

Then the fjords take over: the local ferry across the Masfjorden, the painted coastal harbour of Skjerjehamn facing the North Sea, and the express ferry threading the Alverstraumen strait back toward Bergen — a day that ends on the water it spent hours admiring.

What's included

  • Your driver-guide is with you for the road legs; on the express-boat section the crew takes over, and the car meets you at the pier.
  • All ferry crossings and road tolls.
  • Rain ponchos for the waterfall stops — this is western Norway, and we plan accordingly.

Tour style

  • A fixed loop with flexible stops — the shape of the day is set, the length of every pause is yours.

PAID SEPARATELY

What's not in the price

  • Lunch and coffee along the route.
  • Extra village time or vehicle hours if the coast wins you over.

WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT

Why this loop works

  • The route is planned around the local ferry timetable, with the return sequence set in advance.
  • Two ferry crossings put you on fjord water twice — this isn't a fjord seen through glass.
  • The touch-the-waterfall stop is the day's signature photo stop.
  • Nine hours, one loop, no backtracking — the return leg is new scenery, not a rewind.
  • For bigger names, compare Sognefjord and Flam; for waterfall country, compare Hardangerfjord.

PROGRAM

Tour overview

Tour overview

Bergen to Dale.

Leave Bergen toward Dale while the light is still low and the city gives way to mountain roads.

Waterfalls and mountain road.

Use waterfall stops and the higher road sections as the scenic build-up, not as filler between famous names.

Masfjorden ferry and Skjerjehamn.

Cross Masfjorden by local ferry, then stop at Skjerjehamn, a painted coastal harbor with King Olav V's statue watching the boats.

Express ferry through Alverstraumen.

The water return through Alverstraumen keeps the afternoon from becoming a repeat of the morning road.

Return to Bergen.

Finish in Bergen with the route closed cleanly, not stretched into another distant fjord name.

QUESTIONS WE OFTEN HEAR

Before you book this tour

The loop in brief — the fjords handle the rest.

Where does it start?

Your Bergen hotel or the cruise terminal.

What is included?

Driver-guide, vehicle, all ferries, tolls — and ponchos when the waterfalls are generous.

How does it compare to Sognefjord/Flam?

Fewer famous names, more control: local ferry times are built into the route, while the stops flex around your group.

Is this private?

The vehicle and guide, entirely; the ferries are local public crossings.

Can cruise guests book it?

On longer calls, yes — we check the return leg against your all-aboard time first.
